"[PALAYOK]" (2005) (CERAMIC POT WITH WOOD BASE) by SHARLYN SHEGOIAN
Location: Library, Pygmalion-Second Floor

I'm grateful to the Philippine American Writers & Artists (PAWA) organization for designating a "Calatagan" Award for my four recent books:

I Take Thee, English, For My Beloved (Marsh Hawk Press)

Menage a Trois with the 21st Century (xPress(ed))

Behind the Blue Canvas (Giraffe Books)

Post Bling Bling (Moria Poetry)

The award was manifested partly by a beautiful ceramics piece by Bay Area artist Sharlyn Shegoian, as inspired by the "palayok" earthenware artifact discovered about 2,500 years ago in the caves of Calatagan, Batangas, Philippines.

Location: Library, Pygmalion-First Floor

[FOURTH MENTION DUE TO UPDATE]

UPDATE:

Lisa Solomon sends a missive! To wit:

I’m participating in a holiday sale... There will be over 10 different artists selling affordable art, pottery, cards, and all kinds of hand made goods.... I’ll be selling my Abby-Normal T’s and Bags and some other goodies.... With so much to choose from there HAS to be something that you might like... [and how good to support artists instead of WalMart]

The scoop:

Dec. 10th and 11th [Saturday and Sunday]
11 am - 5pm
Cricket Engine Gallery in Oakland
499 Embarcadero Ave. Building #3
94606

The Gallery is a bit hard to find....you have turn into a private looking driveway. Look for a giant arrow that will direct you into the complex.

There are good directions on their website here:
http://www.cricketengine.org/contact.htm

I won’t physically be there on Saturday – so if you want to say hello to me – be sure to come on Sunday [don’t worry, though – everything will be there and for sale on Saturday].

Pass this on to shoppers you know!

Thanks!!! hope to see you!

Best,
Lisa

THE SEED MARKET
--Rumi

- Can you find another market like this?

- Where,
with your one rose
you can buy hundreds of rose gardens?
- Where,
for one seed
you get a whole wilderness
- For one weak breath,
the divine wind?
- You’ve been fearful
of being absorbed in the ground,
or drawn up by the air.
- Now, your waterbead lets go
and drops into the ocean,
where it came from.
- It no longer has the form it had,
but it’s still water.
The essence is the same.
- This giving up is not repenting,
It’s a deep honoring of yourself.
- When the ocean comes to you as a lover,
marry, at once, quickly,
for God’s Sake!
Don’t postpone it.
Existence has no better gift.
- No amount of searching
will find this.
- A perfect falcon, for no reason,
has landed on your shoulder,
and become yours.

Best,
Lisa
